Basement Ten
God, that basement is DARK. There can't possibly be any kind of symbolism there. Unless it's, "well Riku was in the darker half, but Sora wasn't. HURRR!"
Quite naturally, Riku would be seen as the more valuable. He's more interesting, that's for sure.

Heheh. Vexen. Quite a colorful character when you really think about it. He got what he wanted pretty easily, but then again, Riku isn't exactly psychic.
Number 8.
It always seemed to me that Lexaeus at least knew that Axel couldn't be trusted and I had thought that something would be done about that. Someone on an LJ community mentioned that everyone, except Axel, acted either too fast or too slow. Looks like Lex and Zex acted too slowly. They've probably been underestimating him since he first ended up in the Organization. Even if they didn't, they probably saw him as a dog, just like Larxene did.
